Cruising and safety

Friday, January 20, 2012

I feel obligated to comment on a Costa Concordia tragedy that happened last week. My heart goes out to victims and their family. I'm sure we have all been affected by the news coverage and images we have seen this last week.

However, cruising remains a very safe way to travel. My friend Arlene Pelz wrote a great in-depth article about it, so I have decided to share it will all of you. Why you should not be afraid to cruise:

In closing, we've all heard of planes that have crashed, but that didn't stop me to get on the 26 different flights in 2011 alone. Cruise industry leaders still maintain that the demand is still there and cruise enthusiasts will still enjoy their favorite mode of travel.

Have a Good Night and Safe Travels!

So this is my take on the situation: After 911, those that were frequent fliers were not hugely affected, whereas those that rarely flew were very nervous-with a few refusing to fly ever again...in the long run, there will be little lasting effect, except maybe for the good, as we will all pay a bit more attention during muster, make an effort to review safety procedures, and be aware of our surroundings. This is how we fly post 911...we know location of our exits, pay attention to safety regulations and watch who pees alot! Bottom line is it is statistically safer to cruise than to stay home! -Susan C., Boise idaho
